Getting and comparing solar panel quotes

A good quote tells you exactly what will be installed, by whom, on what timescale, with what warranties. Anything vaguer is difficult to compare and easy to regret.

Questions worth asking every installer

  • What exactly is being installed: panel model and count, inverter model, optimisers, battery?
  • What annual generation are you estimating for my roof, and on what basis?
  • What self-consumption assumption sits behind any saving figure you have quoted me?
  • Which certifications and accreditations does your company hold, and can I see them?
  • Is the price fixed, or subject to change after survey? What could change it?
  • Is scaffolding, roof work and electrical upgrade work included?
  • What warranties apply to panels, inverter, battery and your workmanship, and who honours them?
  • Who notifies the network operator, and who sets up my export arrangement?
  • Do you subcontract the installation, and who will be on my roof?
  • What does aftercare and fault response look like in year three?

Comparing proposals fairly

Line the quotes up on specification first, then on price per kWp installed, then on warranty and aftercare. If one quote is far cheaper, find out what is different — it is almost always a specification difference rather than a bargain.

Be wary of pressure: discounts that expire the same day, prices given before anyone has assessed your roof, or savings presented as guaranteed. A reputable installer is comfortable with you taking time.

How Energy Lead Hub fits in

We are not an installer and we do not sell equipment. You complete a free assessment, see an indicative system size and saving range, and only if you ask are your details passed to one checked installer covering your postcode area — not sold on to a list of companies who then compete for your attention by telephone.

Installers on our platform are reviewed and approved before they can receive an enquiry. You are free to seek additional quotes independently, and we would encourage it.

Figures shown are indicative estimates based on the information provided. They are not a quotation and are not a guarantee of future savings or generation. A qualified installer will confirm what is possible for your property.
